I feel honored and privileged to be asked to photograph this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival Gala hosted by The New Zealand China Friendship Society in Tauranga Baycourt Community and & Arts Centre. The evening has featured a variety of performances, including traditional dances, musical performances and other cultural dance.
Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Mooncake Festival, symbolizes family reunion in Chinese culture, I remember growing up, my family would sit in the lounge, share the mooncakes, and appreciate the moon together.
On this day, we also display lanterns in our home– which symbolize beacons that light people’s path to prosperity and good fortune. Mooncakes, a rich pastry typically filled with sweet-bean or lotus-seed paste, are specially eaten for this occasion.
